Legal Cashier - Full-Time - Chelmsford

We are currently looking to recruit a full-time legal cashier to join our friendly accounts team based in our Chelmsford office.

Summary of role:

This post will involve accounts administration duties/support within the Accounts Department.  You will provide assistance and representation for clients maintaining the highest standards of professional expertise and client care at all times. As a legal cashier, you will also be expected to carry out accounts administration work in a timely and effective manner, adhering to all quality standards. 

The job holder will be directly responsible to the Lead Cashier and Head of Finance.

Responsibilities and day to day tasks:

The job holder’s main responsibilities are:

  • The processing of the transactions comprising the Client and Office accounting systems to the standards established from time to time by the Solicitors' Accounts Rules and in accordance with appropriate VAT and AML regulations
  • The execution and maintenance of administration systems and procedures associated with the Firm's accounting functions.
  • To support the Lead Cashier's responsibility to ensure complete, accurate and timely recording of transactions relating to Clients' ledgers, including related office and disbursement accounting.
  • To assist in ensuring the requirements of the Solicitors' Accounts Rules and the Firm's quality control requirements can be complied with as appropriate to the duties undertaken.
  • To ensure that information and clerical systems are accurately maintained at all times.
  • Receipt and recording of monies received
  • Drawing of cheques, cash and other instruments of payment and accounting 
  • • Bank statement reconciliations and cash book maintenance
  • Checking, numbering and recording client bills and Legal Aid claims
  • Such other duties as may be appropriate to the nature of the position.
