It has been reported that on Tuesday 3rd April 2018 the Police were engaged in a Police chase at East Road, East Mersea, Essex at approximately 9pm.
Media reports have stated that the drivers attempt to escape was short-lived as the vehicle struck a tree at which point he decamped and ran away. The Driver from Romford was arrested shortly after and has been charged with driving with excess alcohol and driving without a licence or insurance.
The ramifications of a conviction of driving with excess alcohol and driving without a licence or insurance can be very weighty. particularly if it involves aggravating features, such as if there is evidence of an unacceptable standard of driving or if the Defendant has previous convictions of a similar nature.
The situation can potentially be even more difficult if the Defendant has provided a sample of breath between 90 -119, which is rather generously over the limit then the Magistrates have the capacity to ban the Defendant from driving a vehicle for up to 28 months and this disqualification can be extended even further if this is the Defendant's second disqualification offence in ten years.
