Proposals include a possible expansion of the apprenticeship style route, that some employers now offer, which allows A-level students to be employed and qualify as lawyers without obtaining a university degree.
With law school fees still generally exceeding £10,000 (excluding university fees) it is hoped that measures providing alternative routes into the profession will increase both access to, and diversity within, the profession in the future.
This policy could also provide employers as well as students with the opportunity to find innovative ways of assisting young people to become successful career lawyers.
The Law Society, however, has stated that more details are currently required before this overhaul can be considered and the proposals will not come into force until at least 2017/2018.
