Gepp & Sons are proud to have supported the Friends of Essex Churches Trust’s Annual General Meeting for many years. This year’s AGM will be held at St Mary’s Church, Saffron Walden on Wednesday 17th May, and followed by the fifth Annual Gepp Lecture.

History fans are in for a treat: the guest speaker at this year’s event is John Goodall, who is the Architectural Editor of Country Life magazine, a historian, and award-winning author of several books, including most recently The English Castle (2011) and Parish Church Treasures (2015).

The topic of the lecture is ‘The Medieval Parish Churches of Essex’ and it’s set to be a very interesting talk. The county of Essex is home to many wonderful churches, and John brings a wealth of knowledge on the subject – we’re looking forward to hearing his unique perspective and learning some of the best-kept secrets of our architectural heritage.

For anyone who is interested in our rich local history, John’s lecture is certainly not to be missed: on reading Parish Church Treasures, Jools Holland calls John Goodall “without question the greatest writer on medieval architecture today,” adding that “his look at the parish churches of England is a fascinating examination of our past and our achievements.”

The lecture is due to start at 8.15 with refreshments from 7.45 - this follows the Friends’ AGM at 7.15.

All are welcome and admission is free. If you plan to attend, please let the organisers know by email to events@foect.org.uk, or by post to Mrs Rachel Grainger, Rockhills Farm, Willingale, Ongar CM5 0QG.

About the Trust

The Friends of Essex Churches Trust is a charity that provides funding and support for the preservation of historic ecclesiastical monuments across the County of Essex. Through various fundraising activities, they have raised thousands of pounds towards protecting and restoring the precious buildings that form part of our cultural heritage.

As a local Essex firm reaching back hundreds of years, this cause is close to our hearts: Mr Gepp himself was a committed supporter of the Trust, dedicating his time to the preservation of the beautiful historic churches of Essex.
