Seaside Attracts Singles !

28 February 2014

On the 2nd January the BBC News Website carried a story entitled “alone at the seaside” which revealed that an analysis of the 2011 census showed a 20% increase in the number of people in England and Wales who were either separated or divorced, compared with a decade before. There are now more than 4 million divorcees and more than a million people who are separated from their spouse.

The census results also disclose that the neighbourhoods with the highest divorced or separated residents often appear to seaside towns.  In Hastings one in six people is divorced or separated which is equivalent to 16.5% and there is a similar proportion inBlackpool and other seaside resorts.

The article pondered the reasons why this may be so.
