BNP leader’s tweet under investigation

17 October 2013

Two men who won a landmark ruling that they had been discriminated against by a B&B owner, due to the fact that they were a gay couple seeking to book a room, were reportedly the subject of Mr Griffin's tweet.  Apparently the home address of Michael Black and John Morgan was published by Mr Griffin, whose tweet appeared to call for a demonstration outside their address.

It is understood that Mr Griffin's Twitter account has now been suspended and Cambridgeshire Police are investigating the content of the tweets.

According to the BBC News website, among the tweets on the @nickgriffinmep account were two which read as follows "So Messrs Black and Morgan at [their address].  A British Justice Team will come up to Huntingdon and give you a…"

"…bit of drama by way of reminding you that an English couple's home is their castle. Say no to heterophobia!".

An earlier tweet had  reportedly asked for the couple's address and then said "we'll hold demo…for rights of all home owners, gays included, to rent or not rent rooms to whomsoever they wish".

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said that they had received a number of calls relating to the tweets and were looking into the complaints received.  It is understood that the two men involved will be spoken to by police in the course of their enquiries.

Campaigner Peter Tatchell called for action to be taken by the police against Mr Griffin.

It is not known whether or not the police are investigating this matter as a case of a 'malicious communication' in the way of so many recent uses of the social media or whether it is considered to be a more general offence calling for public disorder.
