St Michaels Church Of England Junior School Win Rotary Club Choir Competition

Gepp & Sons were recently proud sponsors of the first Chelmsford and District Primary Schools Choir Competition presented by the Chelmsford Phoenix Rotary Club.  Thirteen primary schools from all over Chelmsford competed in 3 heats with the children performing their own take on well-known classics as well as some more modern melodies, culminating in a fantastic final evening at which St Michaels C of E Junior were announced the well deserving winners.

The Colchester Forum Rotary Club have been conducting the Choir Competition for Junior Schools in Colchester for 4 years and it has been such a huge success that the Phoenix Rotary decided to bring the competition to Chelmsford.  Pupils, teachers and parents put a great deal of effort into their performances and this could be seen, not only in the high standard of the competition, but also in the joy on the faces of the children taking part.

The participating schools were St Michael’s C of E Junior, St Johns C of E Primary, St Pius X Catholic School, The Bishops C of E & R C Primary, St Mary’s C of E Primary, Cathedral Primary, Danbury Park Community Primary, Maylandsea Community Primary, Newlands Spring Primary, Wentworth Primary, Maldon Court Preparatory, Hogarth County Primary and Meadgate Primary.  This year’s adjudicators, who had the difficult task of choosing the winning choir, were Eddie Carden, Gareth Bennett and Sue Edwards.

A total of just over £1500 was raised which will be distributed between local youth charities.
