The proposed changes to probate fees which were to take effect in May 2017 have been delayed indefinitely as there is insufficient time for the legislation to pass through Parliament before the general election.

The changes involved moving from a flat fee of £155 for an application by a solicitor or £215 for an individual to a banded fee structure based on the value of the estate.  This would see fees range from zero on estates under £50,000 up to a £20,000 fee for an estate over £2 million.

The Conservatives have yet to confirm whether the proposal will be reintroduced after the general election or if it will be scrapped entirely, should they remain in power.
